Shrunken Head (Vintage Souvenir-Novelty Item)
I purchased this oddities about 25yrs years ago at Denio's Farmers Market & Auction in CA from an outdoor vendor. I was told it was a vintage souvenir shrunken head acquired from Papa New Guinea sometime around the Mid 1970's. These vintage shrunken head replicas were abundant then sold to fund tourism & apparently made of tanned pigskin-hyde & applied human hair & sold as novelties to would be adventuring tourists as grim souvenirs.
If you're looking for something very bizarre & eye catching to add to your oddities collection, then you have found it! (This one is approximately 50yrs old.)
The Shrunken Head measures approx. 7 inches tall (from bottom of chin to top of hair) & sits 12" tall (on its stand.) The stand shows some wear but displays nicely & has an attached shell necklace.
