We have enquired about these plates with wedgewood specialized curators and this is the reply:

" I've attached a couple of pattern book entries which show this design, with the 'A' prefix making it a pattern for Queen's ware between 1871-1932. Queen's ware is a type of cream coloured earthenware made popular by Josiah Wedgwood I; initially named creamware, Wedgwood rebranded it as 'Queen's ware' following a commission made by Queen Charlotte in 1766. The impressed three letters are the date stamps, so we can date the one, which I think reads 'OOK', to October 1882, and the one reading 'DFL' to December 1883. Other marks on the bases are the potter's marks which would have been added during the production process. Potter's marks such as these have no real meaning outside of the factory, and would have been used to indicate who had made, or indeed worked on a particular item - something which was very important to be able to do when workers at the time were paid on piece work.
