United States Army Private Jacob Kurzeja was born February 12th 1888 in Austria, he would live in Missouri and Pennsylvania later in life.

Jacob enlisted in the U.S. Army September 12th 1914. He served in 2nd Company as a Disciplinary Barracks Guard within Pershing's expedition to guard Pancho Villa’s prisoners of war. He had also served in D Battery 20th Field Artillery after his Mexican service, but did not go with the unit to France because he was discharged on January 30th 1918. He was issued this Mexican Service medal in February 1919. He would also be entitled to the Victory medal.

After World War I Jacob worked as a boilermaker for the Columbia Steel Tank Company in 1918 and he would later work as a machinist. Jacob Kurzeja passed away May 18th 1951 in Pennsylvania.
