Faradzh Karaev (born 1943) was born in Baku, Azerbaijan. He is one of the foremost composers of the post-Soviet age. This disc contains two orchestral compositions which are major works of his latest creative period. The first piece, Konzert fur Orchester und Sologeige, is performed by violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja, along with the Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra, Rauf Abullayev conducting. The second work "Vingt ans après - nostalgie... " is performed by the Russian State Symphony Capella, Valery Polyansky conducting.
