(9) 1800s Chinese Carved Mother of Pearl Fish Gaming Token Counter Chips
Antique 19th Century fish shaped, mother of pearl gaming tokens, also known as counters or chips. There is the same general pattern on each with two doves on one side in a circle and fish scales on the other. Hand carved so while the general pattern is the same, there are variations and no two are identical. Minor age toning and light storage marks. Also because of the nature of the material there are variations in the surface. Mother of pearl gaming counters were handcrafted by artisans in China from circa 1700 to circa 1840, for use in scoring and bidding in card games in the Western world.
